This year’s multi-day off-road tour will have us exploring northern Colorado and southern Wyoming trails and county roads. These areas are remote with little to no services, including bathrooms. But that is what off-roading is all about, getting out where very few others roam.
Day1, we leave Ft. Collins early and head up to the Soapstone Prairie Natural area. This is located on a plateau with views looking south towards Ft. Collins. This is a quiet peaceful area and worth the trip. We leave Soapstone and head over to Cherokee Park Road. This is the main east west road in northern Colorado. This road will give us access into the southern Wyoming area. Once we cross over into Wyoming, we will make our way over to Pumpkin Vine Road. On PVR, we cross under one of the busiest railroad tracks in the area. The underpass is kind of unique, I think you find it interesting. Completing day1, will be a stop at the recently renovated Ames Monument. Another oddity in the middle of nowhere. If we have time remaining in day1, a quick drive over to the Vedauwoo is always fun. Day1 concludes with a check-in at our Holiday Inn hotel in Laramie, WY.
Day2, we depart early from the hotel and head out to Jelm Mountain. Jelm has some amazing views of the “Snowies” and the basin where Laramie is located. Once we leave Jelm, we head southwest and end up at the North Sand Hills. We will explore a little of the area and then have lunch. After lunch, we head back towards Wyoming and run King's Canyon road, a section of Medicine Bow and Village Belle Road. Along Medicine Bow Road, there are the remnants of the Village Belle copper mine. After a long day off-roading, we return to the Holiday Inn in Laramie. Day2 will conclude with an optional group dinner at the Altitude Chophouse in Laramie at 6pm.
Day3 will be an optional day and short day of off-roading. We will start off with an optional group breakfast at The Accomplice restaurant at 8:30am. After breakfast, we will explore the Medicine Bow National Forest east of Laramie. These will be mostly dirt roads. We can visit two old army concrete bunkers in the area.
Optionally, you can explore Laramie on Day3 and skip any offroad driving. I hear the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site is a good place to visit. The Laramie Plains Museum is another option as well as the University of Wyoming Art Museum.
As we will be traveling in remote areas, you will want to bring a cooler for snacks, a picnic lunch for both Saturday and Sunday, water and other drinks. Bathroom facilities are few and far between, please be prepared if you need “find a tree.”
This will be a fun trip with plenty of time to make new friends and experience your car’s off-road capabilities.
Per PCA guidelines, this will be a category 3 trip, and as such, please fill out and turn in at check-in the CATEGORY 3 VEHICLE INSPECTION FORM attached to the Motorsportreg website. If you need any help with your vehicle inspection, please reach out to me.

road. Natural rutted washes or gulches with water up to 6” across track (manmade
crossings are exempt). 4WD/AWD SUVs, short 1/2-ton or lighter trucks or off-road rally
cars required (not stock sports cars/sedans). Moderate grades between 10 degrees/17%

surfaces when wet. Exposed rocks up to 7”. Standard profile wheels may be damaged
unless high profile or lugged tires are used.
