About this event
June 14 is Flag Day commemorating the day 247 years ago that a red, white, and blue flag with 13 stripes and 13 stars was adopted by the US Continental Congress. This year, Flag Day falls on a Friday, so joining this tour will not impinge on a (almost summer) weekend. For this event, US and non-political flags (including Porsche flags) are welcome.
Simply, a 200 mile driving tour through some of the most beautiful terrain in the area. Starting in Auburn, we’ll travel east of Lake Tapps, then south of Enumclaw before taking WA-410 over Cayuse Pass and Chinook Pass on our way to lunch at Bryn Yr Brewing in Naches. There will likely be snow still visible on the sides of the road near the passes, so the late spring greenery should be spectacular.
After lunch, we’ll make our way on to 20 miles of the twisty Canyon Road between Yakima and Ellensburg, along the Yakima River. From Ellensburg, we will alternate between the Yakima River Valley and the hills above crossing I-90 several times, but never traveling on it. The tour ends in historic Roslyn at The Brick Saloon.
After the tour, participants have the option of taking US-97 north over Blewitt Pass to hook up to US Hwy 2 west (and head west over Stevens Pass), or reverse the route through Yakima, take US Hwy 12 west over White Pass or over Chinook/Cayuse Passes. At this time of year, sunset is after 9pm, so taking the long way home is encouraged. For those that require a faster, direct route home, I-90 west over Snoqualmie Pass is recommended.
