About this event
Tour chair note: This promises to be both an exceptional driving tour as well as one that is highly educational, especially for those interested in science and our solar system. Only register for this tour if you are committed to participate as we are limited to 82 people at the Observatory and you must have a ticket (which will be provided) to attend. Also a Discover Pass is required to attend since the Observatory is located within a state park.
READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION BELOW SO YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND!!
Come join us for a unique opportunity to listen to a a complete multi-media presentation from a Forest Service ranger as he/she gives a detailed explanation of our solar system including a personal view of the heavens through the Observatory’s main 29.5 inch reflector telescope. We were there for a daytime presentation a couple years ago, but this will be more spectacular since it wil be at night! The tour starts with a beautiful drive through the Cascades down to Goldendale, WA. Two blocks of hotel rooms have been reserved for PNWR members at the Ponderosa Inn and Quality Inn in Goldendale for Saturday night. We will plan to arrive in Goldendale by mid afternoon in time to check in, freshen up and then attend a group dinner at Ayutlas Mexican Restaurent before heading up to the Goldendale Observatory for the 9 PM to Midnight program.
On Sunday morning we will reorganize for an exhilarating drive from Goldendale down to the Columbia River via the winding Klickitat Canyon (Hwy 142) and then continue along the Columbia River to the Maryhill Winery and on to the Stonehenge (replica) War Memorial before heading back up the hill to Goldendale. Once back in Goldendale, the tour ends and you are free to spend the rest of the day as you like while heading home.
