About this event
GPX Tour to Tehachapi Loop
This tour was originally run in November of 2015, organized by our legendary Grand Prix Region Tour Meister at the time Marty Goldsmith.
The Tehachapi Loop tour has several interesting features besides our destination. Our route will take us from La Canada over the San Gabriel Mountains on the Angeles Forest Highway.
A short, uncrowded Interstate hop brings us to Rosamond, where we turn west to have a passing look at Willow Springs Raceway, the first dedicated road racing track in the USA.
Then we set off into the Tehachapi Mountains for a short run to the town of Tehachapi.
We will stop in Tehachapi for lunch at a terrific restaurant.
After lunch we will caravan over to the Tehachapi Depot.
The old railway depot is now a museum.
After the Tehachapi Depot, we'll drive about 20 minutes to the area of the "Loop". Parking is limited along the road, but we'll spread out. In 2021 a vewing overlook was built. With a bit of luck, we'll be able to see a freight train passing over itself on the "Loop". Keep your cameras ready!
The return is on your own. Some will go back the way we came, others will use Highway 58 to leave the area. Some may choose to remain overnight in Tehachapi, which has several good motels.
This is a “Rain or Shine” event.
