Hi Porsche Friends,
This will be a tour up Pikes Peak led by Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Champion and Alpine Mountain Region Past President, Chris Lennon. It will focus on the legendary race (second only to the Indy 500 in longevity) and will travel what’s commonly referred to as “the most beautiful racecourse in the world”. This tour will be limited to 20 spots and will be lead with stories during the drive with use of walkie talkies (provided for the tour).
The tour will begin at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Experience, right across the road from the Broadmoor hotel. There, participants will get an introduction to this legendary race, its drivers, and even see some of the legendary cars that have conquered the mountain over the years. Participants will receive an autographed copy of “The Peak of Racing”, a beautiful coffee table book covering the 100+ year history of the race and all 156 hair-raising turns (one copy per car, assuming two participants per car).
We will then head directly to the mountain itself.
Stops will be made along the way, where interesting and entertaining stories will be shared, and any questions answered. Stops are expected to be at the pit/paddock area for the race, Glen Cove and Devil’s Playground (which offers a view of about 4 miles of the 12.41 mile course). These have plenty of parking and offer beautiful settings. The tour will conclude on the 14,115 foot summit. There, we will visit the brand-new Summit House, and enjoy gorgeous vistas before heading back down on your own for a delicious lunch at Thunder and Buttons.
We look forward to having everyone join us on Saturday!
