About this event
We will be going to Watkins Glen the weekend of June 15th for our drive and laps event. The event has several components available, and you may pick and choose which parts you would like to attend. We will be meeting at the Waffle House / Dunkin Donuts parking lot in Clarks Summit for an 8:15 drivers meeting and 8:30 departure. I would recommend arriving with a full tank of gas. You can arrive early if you want to have breakfast. We will be driving approximately three hours on mostly back roads with one fluid adjustment stop on the way to the racetrack. We are scheduled to check in at 11:30 for a 12:00 departure for 3 laps in your car on the track behind a pace car. After the laps we will have an opportunity to tour the garages and see the PCA club race cars before the race resumes. When the race resumes, we can watch the race while eating lunch. The concession stand is usually open for lunch however I would recommend you bring a cooler with lunch, snacks and drinks in case it isn't open.
We will be leaving the track at around 1:30 for the drive to the Glenn Curtis Museum for a 2:00 guided tour for our group. The guided part usually takes about forty minutes, however, self-guided could take up to three hours, so you have plenty of time to explore after the guided tour is over. I feel confident that the tour will conveniently lead us right to the gift shop!
When we are done at the museum we can check into the Best Western Plus hotel in Hammondsport where we have a block of rooms set aside for us at the rate of $233 for a king or 2 queens or a suite for $263. Luckily the hotel is right next to the Finger Lakes Brewing Co where they have beer tasting and entertainment if you want to relax for a little bit before dinner. The Keuka Creamery is also right there although it may be a better dessert option.
We then have a dinner reservation at The Timberstone Grill that is about one mile away at 6:30. After dinner the town of Hammondsport has many small shops to enjoy.
The hotel does offer free breakfast so you can refuel before heading home or enjoy some of the many other activities that Hammondsport/Keuka lake has to offer.
Now the hard part....the business end of the trip.
Part 1 - The drive, which is free, but I do need a head count.
Part 2 - The paced laps driving your car around the racetrack which is $30 per car. (no helmets and no passing but children are welcome to ride with you, parental waiver required)
Part 3 - The Museum which costs $11 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for children ages 6-18 and free 5 and younger.
Part 4 - The hotel, please make your reservation directly with the hotel but indicate on motorsportreg so we have a head count. The hotel phone 607 224 4120 and ask for the rate for Pocono Porsche Club. The rooms are limited so please register quickly and let me know if you have any problems and I may be able to get more rooms added if possible.
Part 5 - The dinner price depends upon your appetite! We will be ordering off their menu with individual checks.
We look forward to an enjoyable weekend!
